Felix Carloff, a Year 7 student at Redbank Plains State High School, has made impressive progress during Term 2 after a challenging start to the year. 

In Term 1, Felix received a number of suspensions, which impacted his attendance and made it difficult for him to get the most out of his schooling. Wanting to help Felix succeed, the school's ARTIE Mentor and Inclusion and Community Coordinator (ICC) worked together to ensure he started Term 2 on the right foot. 

Since the beginning of the term, the ARTIE Mentor has met with Felix each week for regular check-ins. These meetings have focused on helping Felix understand his behaviours and develop strategies to better manage his impulses. Together, the ARTIE Mentor and ICC spent considerable time talking with Felix about making positive choices and finding practical ways to stay in control during challenging situations. 

One of the biggest breakthroughs came when the ARTIE Mentor discovered that Felix responds extremely well to positive reinforcement. By recognizing and praising his good decisions and positive actions, Felix became more motivated and confident in his ability to make better choices.
