More than a name
ARTIE is named in honour of Arthur Beetson OAM, one of Australia's most respected sporting figures and a proud advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

As the first Indigenous captain of an Australian sporting team, Arthur Beetson broke barriers both on and off the field. He was admired not only for his achievements in rugby league, but also for his commitment to creating opportunities for others.
​
Arthur believed strongly in the power of education to change lives. He understood that supporting young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to complete their education was one of the most important ways to create stronger futures for individuals, families and communities.

His belief that young people should be encouraged, supported and given every opportunity to succeed remains at the heart of ARTIE today.

More than a decade after its founding, the ARTIE Academy continues to carry forward Arthur's vision by helping students stay engaged in school, celebrate their achievements and work towards meaningful futures.
A legacy carried forward
Arthur Beetson believed in creating opportunities for future generations. Today, his legacy can be seen in the students who have participated in ARTIE and gone on to pursue education, employment, leadership and community involvement.
