A Leader in the Making

Many students were up for debate on featuring in this Good News Story. However, the data makes it very hard to overlook Glenala State High School’s Azaliah Conlon. In her early days of Grade 11 at GSHS, she would often be absent regularly, arrive late, or only be at school for parts of the day. As the year has gone on, she has gradually built consistency in her attendance.

Terms 1-3 showed a gradual increase in Azaliah’s attendance. He closest friends at GSHS are mixed bagged with their attendance, but unfortunately most fall below the standard. Azaliah began as one of the lowest attendees between her friend group but is now leading the way within her circle.

Azaliah’s leadership extends beyond her peers. At the Term 4 ARTIE Launch, Azaliah volunteered to take part in the Acknowledgement of Country. Her bravery and professionalism earned herself a bronze award and the rewards did not stop there. In week 4 of term 4, Azaliah received an effort reward in celebration of her term attendance breaking the 90% threshold for the first time. Her stoic reaction was anticlimactic as she did not realise her attendance was so high, nor the magnitude of the achievement. 

She now understands the significance of the achievement and the ramifications it will have towards her academics, DLP participation and overall future. By being present, she was able to absorb more information and knowledge from her teachers, mentors and peers.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of many accolades for Azaliah Conlon.
