Bringing Communities Together Through Yarn N Eat

At ARTIE, we believe that strong communities help build strong young people. That's why we work alongside families, schools, Elders and local support services to create opportunities for connection, conversation and belonging.

One of the ways we do this is through our Yarn N Eat gatherings, held at schools across Queensland. These community events bring together students, parents, carers, school staff, Elders and local organisations in a relaxed and welcoming environment where everyone is invited to share a meal, have a yarn and strengthen relationships.

No two Yarn N Eat events are the same. Depending on the community, they might include a barbecue, morning tea, cultural performances, student showcases or opportunities to connect with local Elders and community leaders. What remains the same is the purpose — creating culturally safe spaces where people can come together, share stories and build trust.

Yarn N Eat is about more than food. It's about creating meaningful connections between schools, families and the wider community, ensuring students feel supported both inside and outside the classroom. By bringing people together, we help strengthen partnerships that encourage young people to thrive.
